Antique 1915 Native American Zuni Tourist Pottery Basket with Twisted Handle

This small but finely crafted pottery basket was made by a Zuni artisan for the early 20th-century tourist market, bearing the inscription “Gallup 1915” on the base. The form features a distinctive twisted handle, a motif often used by Zuni potters of the period. The painted decoration includes soft floral and linear elements in warm red and brown tones, reflecting both traditional Pueblo design and the appeal to visiting travelers. A beautiful and well-preserved example of Native American artistry adapted for early Southwestern trade.
